New Sun

This past winter For New Years Eve, I created my first shadow puppet piece using overhead projectors and live people in combination with puppets. New Sun was largely influenced by Indian design, philosophy, textiles, and architecture. It's a magical story of the life cycle of a plant in which a bird eats its seed, flies into the nights sky with it, becoming a constellation himself. The stars fall down to the earth as rain and begin the cycle of life once again. The show begins and ends with a quote by two different Native American chiefs about Nature.
I've been lucky enough to perform this piece with various puppeteers as well as custom musical scores at Artscape, Black Cherry Puppet Theater, and Baltimore Yoga Village. The musicians who've collaborated with me on this piece include Matt Muirhead, Adam Kandel and Ryan Sansang of Bakti Tree, and Kenny, the Bowlegged Gorilla

Puppeteers who have performed New Sun include Joseph Young, Rebekah Kirkman, Heather Huddleston, Leanora Eubanks, Josh Rothschild, Katie Field, Dina Marie Varsalone, and Laura Kalman.
